Visual designing and creating are integral to my everyday life. The mere act of paying attention holds infinite opportunities for ideation.
I have a BFA in Drawing & Printmaking, an MFA in Surface & Textile Design; am a Professor Emeritus of Fibers from Tennessee Tech University's Appalachian Center for Craft, and continue to teach workshops.
Drawing, screen printing, mono & block printing, and painting are my loves and areas of expertise. I move equally between working on paper or fabric; piecing and stitching add another layer of meaning. My art work ranges from small & large format wall hangings to uniquely designed wearables and textile goods created with professional quality, non-toxic, color & wash-fast pigments.
Image making for me almost always includes text. It can enhance or subvert the visual concept. It is the subliminal or the outspoken. It is graphic. Gestural. Emotional. Text is image with the added bonus of symbolism.
At the core of all of my art work is a concept. Creating and imaging captivate me. Ideas bubble and cook in my brain, just under the surface. When bubbled enough, the impetus and images begin to emerge.
It is then time to get to work.
